On the corner of the Singel and one of the most beautiful alleys in the world (the Korsjespoortsteeg), you will find Evenaar travel bookstore. A unique bookstore full of travel books. It’s a great place to visit if you’re in Amsterdam and looking for inspiration for your next trip.
Evenaar is the last independent travel bookstore in Amsterdam. The focus is on connecting reading and traveling. Why? You get more out of your trip if you are well-prepared. By reading a narrative book about the culture, history, or politics of a destination, for example. This could also be a novel set in your (favorite) holiday destination.
The Evenaar travel bookstore was started in 1991 by Marre van Dantzig and Maria Bastiaens, and taken over by Coen Borgman in 2023.
He increasingly sees the store as a meeting place for travelers: “The great thing about this store is that, of course, people who are about to travel come here. You get to talk to people who are already looking forward to their trip or who are vividly sharing stories about their previous destinations.”
This travel bookstore in Amsterdam is also a starting point for Dutch and English-speaking tourists visiting Amsterdam. You can also buy many special books about Amsterdam here, such as:
- Amsterdam Cook Book – Traditional food, recipes, and stories of Holland’s Capital
- Dutch Biking Survival Guide for Beginners
- Russel Shorto – Amsterdam – A History of the World’s Most Liberal City
- Time to Momo – Amsterdam
- Lonely Planet The Netherlands
Evenaar is a great starting point for your trip to Amsterdam. Drop by for a cup of coffee and perhaps purchase a travel guide or book.
Coen welcomes you warmly!
