Looking for a romantic spot to have a picnic with your partner, or want to have a fun BBQ with friends? There’s plenty of parks in Amsterdam that are suited for these kinds of plans. What the best choice is, depends on where you’re staying and the atmosphere you’re looking for. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar yet: in this article, we’ll highlight a couple of our favourites.

Vondelpark
Vondelpark is the most well-known park in Amsterdam, and for good reason! It’s located between Leidseplein and Museumplein. There’s a lot to see and do around the Vondelpark. There’s plenty of playgrounds for kids, wide paths for skaters and cyclists and even an open air theatre. Make sure to stop by the blue tearoom (fittingly called ‘Het Blauwe Theehuis’) for a drink and a snack. On sunny days, it gets very busy here: perfect for people who love a lively and vibrant environment.
Westerpark
Westerpark borders on the west of Amsterdam and specifically, the Westergasfabriek. This means it has beautiful restaurants, galleries and fun events right around the corner! The area is ideal for a fun day out.
Would you prefer a picnic in Westerpark over visiting the restaurants? Make sure to look up food delivery in Amsterdam: it’s easy, quick and convenient. For exampl: Bakkerswinkel in Westerpark. There you can get coffee and delicious sandwiches/muffins/etc. Ideal for a picnic 🙂 Or very good ice cream at IJscuypje. Check out top rated restaurants online or on a delivery app called Thuisbezorgd (the Dutch version of JustEat) to find a place to order from.
Oosterpark
Want to visit one of the oldest parks in Amsterdam? Oosterpark has a rich history, is much less touristy than Vondelpark, and offers beautiful open fields and artwork. Are you travelling with kids and is it hot outside? Oosterpark has a fun water playground that’s perfect for cooling down after a long day of exploring the city. The park is also very well suited for a relaxed walk or a nice workout.
Sarphatipark
Looking for a smaller park that’s in the middle of one of the most popular neighbourhoods? The Sarphatipark is located in De Pijp, a youthful and vibrant area. The park itself isn’t big, but has plenty of space for a nice picnic or a nice short walk around. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city and hang out among the locals, a visit to the Sarphatipark is a great little getaway.
The perfect spot
If you’re in Amsterdam and want to enjoy the local parks with a picnic, have a look at one of these parks! Pick the one that fits your vibe and plan a fun outing for your partner, family or friends. Would you rather have a bbq? Make sure to look up which parks you’re allowed to bbq in: not all parks allow open fire.
