Paradiso is one of Amsterdam’s most distinctive live music venues. Set inside a former church close to Leidseplein, it feels very different from a modern arena and is a brilliant place to see a concert during a city break.
If you are travelling from the UK for a show, a little preparation makes the evening much easier. The venue is central, but door times, queues, cloakroom arrangements and your journey back to the hotel are all worth thinking about before you arrive.
Where is Paradiso?
Paradiso is just off Leidseplein in central Amsterdam. It is easy to reach by tram from several parts of the city, and you can also walk there from the canal belt, Museumplein and many central hotels.
If you are staying further out, check the latest public transport information for Amsterdam before the show, especially if your concert finishes late.
Check the exact door time on your ticket
Do not assume the time shown for an event is the moment the main artist starts. Concert listings can show doors, support acts and different room schedules. Your own ticket and the official event information should be your final reference.
Arriving a little early is useful if you want time to get inside, sort out a coat or bag and find a good position before the room fills up.
Paradiso has more than one room
The main hall is the famous space most visitors picture, but Paradiso also hosts events in smaller rooms. Check which room your event is in so you know what kind of evening to expect.
The smaller setting can actually be part of the appeal. Paradiso is popular because even well-known artists can feel surprisingly close compared with a large arena show.
What should you bring?
Travel light if you can. A concert is much easier when you are not carrying a large bag around Amsterdam all evening. Check the venue’s current bag and cloakroom rules before you leave your hotel, because policies can change between events.
Keep your ticket easy to access on your phone and make sure your battery is not almost empty by the time you reach the entrance.
Plan the rest of your evening around Leidseplein
Paradiso sits in one of Amsterdam’s busiest nightlife areas, so you do not need to travel far for food or a drink before or after the concert. Our guide to Leidseplein bars and nightlife gives you a useful starting point.

Getting back after the concert
This is the part people often forget. Amsterdam public transport runs well, but frequencies change later at night and weekend engineering works can affect routes. Check your return journey before the concert rather than working it out after the encore.
If your hotel is within a comfortable walking distance, walking can be the simplest option after a busy show. Otherwise, know which tram, night bus or taxi option makes sense for where you are staying.
Is Paradiso worth visiting?
If an artist you like is playing there, absolutely. The building gives concerts a character that is hard to reproduce in a purpose-built venue. It is central, atmospheric and easy to combine with the rest of a weekend in Amsterdam.
The main thing is to treat it like part of your city break rather than just a concert ticket. Arrive with enough time, plan your route home and leave the rest of the evening fairly flexible.
